Spina is a vibrant, neighborhood Italian restaurant devoted to the art of fresh pasta in the heart of New York City’s East Village.
All of our delicate pastas - the centerpiece of our menu - are handmade fresh daily at our one-of-a-kind pasta station located in the dining room. Every day, Blanca , our pasta maker, creates pappardelle, malloreddus, maccheroncini, gnocchi and many other delicious varieties in full view of our guests.
All of our food is prepared from Italy & the Mediterranean’s finest ingredients -
that we have delivered to us daily. Executive Chef Roberto Patriarca’s creations reflect the best of Italian cooking - a simplicity belying the depth of flavor. It’s the type of food that Roberto learned to prepare at a young age in his family’s restaurant on the west coast of Italy.
Utilizing “best in season” and imported products, Spina focuses on the real food that Italians prepare in their homes, such as “a ‘mpepata e cozze”, a traditional plate of mussels steamed with lemon and white wine; “polpettine,” mouthwatering meatballs slowly cooked in a rich tomato sauce and “gamberetti”, creamy lemon-garlic shrimp with fennel salad and pickled red onions. For our nightly specials, Chef Roberto prepares the best meats and the freshest seafood. Our desserts are also made fresh daily.
Spina’s unique wine list does not focus exclusively on Italy. Instead it represents the world travels of our Sommelier Rob.
Limited production wines from small, boutique wineries in Italy, France, Austria and South Africa are some of Rob’s favorites along with great finds from vineyards in Washington, California and the Finger Lakes. Weekly, Spina highlights an
up-and-coming wine as Rob’s “Selection of the Week” - a great value find from a lesser known region or grape varietal.
Both the setting of Spina and our service are consistent with the vibe of our East Village neighborhood. Our comfortable dining room seats 45 and a small wine bar allows guests to enjoy small cicchetti plates, cheese and salumi or a full meal in a relaxed setting. Friendly and knowledgeable, our servers are there to help you enjoy your meal and make your night a memorable one. Fresh flowers, upbeat music and trattoria style open doors add to the lively atmosphere that embodies our neighborhood.

Roberto Patriarca
As a son of an Italian restaurateur Roberto Patriarca was born into the business. He grew
up on the west coast of Italy near Naples. where he loved the incredible tastes of the fresh seafood, produce and cheese from the area. Roberto began cooking in the kitchen of his family’s restaurant at age 13, studied in culinary school and honed his skills in Italy before moving to New York City in his twenties where he has worked in some of New York’s most-respected Italian kitchens. As Executive Chef, Roberto brings the beauty of Neapolitan and Italian cooking to Spina’s East Village kitchen.
